An Effortless & Elegant Start to the Session

I have been waiting to share this one because I am obsessed with Carter & Caroline’s engagement session. Truly. The outfits, the light, the boat, the sweetest ending. This session had everything I love about being an engagement (and wedding!) photographer.

We started the evening in the park, where Carter & Caroline dressed things up a little and wandered through the gardens with me in the prettiest golden light. They laughed, loved on each other, and made my job incredibly easy. The whole first half felt classic and romantic while still feeling completely like them.

Brides often lean into white, which is a classic for a reason. However, seeing Caroline absolutely glow in her pink dress reminded me why it is so much fun when brides throw color into the mix! She brought the classic white back for part two… out on the boat!

We traded the gardens for the lake, and this is where things got extra dreamy. Carter & Caroline relaxed on the boat while we chased the last of the evening light across the water. Windblown hair, bare feet, lots of laughing. It felt less like an engagement session and more like the perfect Minnesota summer date night that I happened to photograph.

Engagement Photos on the Lake

As a Minnesota engagement photographer, I love when couples choose a session that gives us more than one setting or activity. Minnesota truly has so much to offer- any chance I get to showcase it, I am thrilled! Also, you get so much variety in your gallery, but more importantly, the evening starts to feel like an actual date instead of a photoshoot.

Carter & Caroline’s session did exactly that. We got the romantic, dressed-up garden photos first, then completely changed the feel once we headed onto the water. That soft Minnesota summer light on the lake? I could photograph it forever. Just when I thought the night couldn’t get any sweeter, we pulled back in to find their parents waiting with snacks and ready to celebrate them. I mean… come on.

I love engagement sessions that feel like an experience rather than just a reason to take pretty pictures. Carter & Caroline gave me exactly that: a gorgeous Minnesota summer night, two completely different looks, time on the water, and a whole lot of joy.
