As I was dreaming of upcoming summer weddings this morning, my mind kept wandering back to a quintessential celebration from last season. Elly & Mitch’s wedding weekend in Okoboji was nothing short of magical, and for good reason. While the two now call Colorado home, Okoboji has always held a special place in Elly’s heart. She grew up spending summers there with her family, and that sense of history and nostalgia was woven into every part of their day. There’s just something different about a wedding that’s rooted in meaningful places and memories.

The day began with Elly and her girls getting ready in the very home where she spent those summers. There was an ease to the morning with so much familiarity, laughter, and genuine excitement. Every corner of the house, paired with the lake just outside, made for such a naturally beautiful and sentimental backdrop. Capturing photos in such a beautiful space made it hard not to be excited for the rest of the day!

From there, the day unfolded with thoughtful, lake-inspired details that made everything feel uniquely them. Guests made their way from ceremony to reception by boat, fully embracing the Okoboji lifestyle. One of my favorite touches was the seating display made up of miniature buoys alongside a custom map of the lake which served as the guest book. It was creative, personal, and perfectly tied into the setting.

As the sun dipped lower over the water, the celebration only grew more joyful. Between heartfelt toasts, sentimental moments, and a packed dance floor, Elly and Mitch’s day felt effortless in the best way. It was the kind of wedding that reminds you why summer celebrations are so special…and why I’ll always say yes to capturing them!
